In anticipation of World Water Day (March 22) and Earth Day (April 22) the Mount Washington Association’s March General Membership meeting (7:30 pm Monday, March 16) will feature presentations on the past, present and future of Northeast L.A.’s waterway, the Arroyo Seco as well as information on community gardening, sustainability and beautification efforts..

The update on Arroyo conservation will be presented by Meredith McKenzie, a lecturer in environmental policy and planning at Cal State Polytechnic University and Sustainability Program Manager for the Arroyo Seco Foundation. Meredith will also show an excerpt from a work-in-progress documentary film on the Arroyo's restoration.

Community Gardening efforts will be addressed by Paula Sirola, an environmental activist and a Mount Washington representative on the Arroyo Seco Neighborhood Council and by Nicole Gatto, who recently founded Highland Park's Milagro Allegro public garden. Linda Padilla will address small-space organic gardening and composting techniques.

An update on the Mount Washington Association’s own beautification and environmental programs will be presented by MWA Beautification Chair, Lynnette Kampe.

Business items will include a call for ratification of the board's vote to support the establishment of a satellite community college at the Southwest Museum and a request from the Mount Washington School for funding of a kindergarten class outing.
